David A. Connelly

David A. Connelly, 75, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., formerly of Pittsfield, died Sunday at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach.
Born in Cambridge on June 28, 1926, son of Edwin A. and Grace Coughlin Connelly, he graduated from Cambridge Latin High School in 1943. He received a bachelor's degree and, in 1981, a master of science degree in education from the former North Adams State College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
He joined the Navy in 1944 and was a decorated veteran of World War II, and the Korean and the Vietnam wars. He was a member of the USS Wallace L. Lind plank owners, as a member of the crew when the ship was commissioned, and retired as an Air Force aviator in 1973.
Mr. Connelly was employed by the state Department of Employment Training in Pittsfield, retiring as manager in 1989.
He enjoyed playing golf, reading and traveling, and was a former member of the Berkshire Hills and the Pittsfield country clubs.
He leaves his wife, the former Theresa Niewinski; three sons, Edward Connelly of Richmond, Va., John Connelly of Milford, Mich., and David Connelly of Pleasant Ridge, Mich.; a daughter, Grace Connelly of Newton; three brothers, James Connelly of Wakefield, Edward Connelly of Belmont and Frederick Connelly of Wells Beach, Maine, and 10 grandchildren.
After cremation, private interment will be in the family plot in Belmont, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Lung Association, 1817 Gadsden St., Columbia, SC 29201.
