Sarah Rocca, 78, of 72 Washington Mountain Road died Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 8, 1923, daughter of John and Rose Valverde Martino, she attended local schools.
She was employed as a secretary for Dr.Charles L. Baver for many years, retiring in 1986 due to ill health. Previously, she had been employed as a hairdresser and managed the LaBarron Hair Dresser Academy and then M. Solomon Hair Salon in Pittsfield.
Mrs. Rocca attended the Berkshire Community Church in Richmond.
Her husband, Joseph Rocca, whom she married April 3, 1943, died May 9, 1995.
She leaves a daughter, Donna Rocca of Dalton; four sisters, Jane Pierce of Pittsfield, Rose Frieri of Bullhead City, Ariz., Annie French of Melbourne, Fla., and Esther Dimartino of Pasadena, Calif.; two brothers, Jasper Martino of Lenox and David Martino of Hemet, Calif.
The funeral will be Monday at 10 at the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield with the Rev. Roberta Heath, pastor of the Berkshire Community Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 4 to 7. A sister, Mary Palermo, died March 2002. She leaves four beloved cats, Sammy, Isaac, Zachary and Jacob. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Berkshire Community Church Building Fund in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
