Pierena "Rena" Gardino, 93, formerly of The Curtis, 6 Main St., died Tuesday at Hillcrest Commons, where she had resided since May 1998.
Born in Nizza, Province of Monferato, Italy, on Jan. 7, 1909, daughter of Michael and Catherine Berta Daffara, she attended schools there before emigrating to the United States at the age of 10. She attended schools in Brooklyn, N.Y.
She was a homemaker. She moved to Lee in 1971 and to Lenox in 1981.
Mrs. Gardino was a communicant of St. Ann's Church and a member of the Lenox Senior Citizens Club.
Her husband, Mario Gardino, whom she married June 15, 1930, died Jan. 6. 1971.
She leaves a son, Alfred J. Gardino of Pittsfield; three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 14, at 9:15 from ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Ann's Church, celebrated by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday, May 12, from 4 to 6. In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make memorial contributions to either Alzheimer's Association of Western Mass. or HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
