April 29, 2002
Francis C. Tetlow, 64, of 175 Elm St. died Monday afternoon at Springside of Pittsfield, where he had resided since 1999.
Born in Pittsfield on April 11, 1938, son of George and Margaret Shea Tetlow, he attended local schools.
He served in the Air Force for six years, including three years when he was stationed in Japan.
After his military service, Mr. Tetlow was employed on oil rigs and pipelines in Louisiana. He was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease at 32. When illness prevented him from working, he performed volunteer work and worked as a teacher's aide in the Follow-Through program at the former West Side Community School, now Conte Community School in Pittsfield.
He enjoyed the outdoors. He and his wife of 18 years, the former Betty McGinnis, helped test streams for acid rain and rebuild trails on Mount Greylock. They also enjoyed several cross-country trips and cruises before he became ill.
Besides his wife, he leaves four daughters, Margaret Moore of Tolland, Conn., and Janet Andrus, Tina Arceneaux and Jill Cook, all of Louisiana; two sons, Francis Ireland and Bryan Tetlow, both of Massachusetts; a stepson, Chris Fradkin of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; a sister, Susan Dimitropolis of Adams, and 14 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his siblings, George, Ronald, Paul Tetlow, Helen Hanna, Dorothy Wood and Ruth Barth.
Memorial services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Huntington's Chorea in care of the funeral home.
