Thomas A. Simon

Thomas A. Simon, 82, of 65 Columbus Ave., formerly of 42 Doreen St., died Tuesday evening at Springside of Pittsfield.

Born in Fall River on June 7, 1919, son of Ferris and Jamily Coury Simon, he attended schools there. He came to the Berkshires in 1936 and attended Pittsfield High School.

He was a World War II Army veteran, and served in the European theater and in the Italian and African campaigns.

Mr. Simon was employed as a bartender at the former Richmond Café for more than 42 years. He was most recently employed as a bartender at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 448 for eight years and was a parking lot attendant at The Mount in Lenox for Shakespeare & Company.

He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and an honorary life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 448.

He leaves his wife, the former Elizabeth I. Barrett, whom he married July 15, 1967; a son, Thomas A. Simon of Pittsfield; a brother, Michael Simon of Pittsfield; three sisters, Adele Simon, Alice Tucker and Margaret Zenni, all of Fall River, and three grandsons. He was predeceased by his brother, Samuel Simon, and his sister, Annie Richmany.

Calling hours at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be Thursday from 4 to 7. Funeral services will be held Friday at 8:45 a.m. from the funeral home, followed with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society of Sacred Heart Church in care of the funeral home.
