Carolyn 'Carrie' Bak

Carolyn "Carrie" Bak, 90, formerly of 287 Dewey Ave., died yesterday at Hillcrest Commons.
Born in Ludlow on Feb. 24, 1912, daughter of Louis and Aniela Obozut Neils, she attended Immaculate Conception School in Springfield.
A Pittsfield resident for most of her life, she worked as a crossing guard for the Pittsfield schools, retiring in 1984. A playground at the corner of Dewey and Danforth avenues is named in her honor.
Mrs. Bak was a communicant of Holy Family Church, a member of the St. Cecelia Choir and the Holy Family Rosary Sodality Mothers Guild. She also was a life member of the Polish Community Club and the Ralph J. Froio Senior Center.
Her husband, William Bak, died on Jan. 26, 1984. She leaves a son, Thomas L. Bak, of Chattanooga, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Friday, April 26, at 10:30 a.m. from the Dwyer Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church celebrated by the Rev. Eugene A. Suszek, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, April 26, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Bak's memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
