Helen M. Koenig

Helen M. Koenig, 77, of Rose Manor Apartments, 195 Elberon Ave., died Saturday evening at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., on March 2, 1925, daughter of Arthur and Hazel Alexander LaPorte, she attended schools there and in Pittsfield. She graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1942 and from the former Pittsfield Secretarial School.
She was employed as a stenographer at GE until 1949.
Mrs. Koenig was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church and volunteered at Sacred Heart School many years ago. More recently, she attended St. Mary's Church. She had been a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed sports, especially the Pittsfield Mets and the Red Sox, and reading.
Her husband, Walter C. Koenig, whom she married June 26, 1948, died July 1, 1999.
She leaves a son, John W. Koenig of Pittsfield; two daughters, Marjorie A. Femia of Northboro and Jean M. Setne of Alamogordo, N.M.; a sister, Anne Rakar of Kettering, Ohio; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated tomorrow, April 24, at 10 at Sacred Heart Church by the Rev. Paul LaFlamme, parochial vicar. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours are today from 5 to 8 at DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
