Frank M. Pupo

Frank M. Pupo, 86, of 66 Circular Ave., former councilor at large, three-term Ward 6 councilor, School Committee chairman and member of the Pittsfield Housing Authority, died Saturday at Hillcrest Commons, where he was admitted March 26, 2001.
Mr. Pupo served as Ward 6 councilman from 1950 to 1958. In 1961, he was voted a councilor at large to fill a vacant seat at a special election of the City Council.
He began his School Committee career in January 1963, when a joint convention named him to fill the board's Ward 6 vacancy. He was elected chairman in 1966.
Born in Pittsfield on April 15, 1916, son of Antonio and Maria Russo Pupo, he was a 1936 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the battles of Tunisia, Sicily and Rome-Arno.
He was employed by GE for 40 years, retiring from the ordnance department as a production specialist.
Mr. Pupo was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and a member and past president of its Holy Name Society. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs, the Mount Carmel Church Wednesday Night Bocce League, the Wednesday Morning Bocce Group and Pontoosuc Country Club, and a former member of the Sons of Italy Itam Lodge 564 of Pittsfield.
He also enjoyed woodworking and bowling, and was a Red Sox and New England Patriots fan.
His first wife, the former Rosemary D. Cudahy, whom he married Aug. 8, 1951, died June 22, 1959.
He and his wife, the former Winifred I. Huard Healy, were married Aug. 6, 1962, at Mount Carmel Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Michael A. Pupo of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Frances M. Raymond of Burlington, Conn.; two stepsons, Christopher P. Healy of Ellicott City, Md., and Daniel J. Healy of Pittsfield; three stepdaughters, Mary K. Deane of Adams, Maureen A. Woodburn of Mesa, Ariz., and Kathryn E. Haley of Pittsfield; a sister, Rose Gaetani of Laguna Hills, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Pupo was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph J., Samuel J. and James A. Pupo, and by two sisters, Rosaria Zaccari and Isabella Zaccari.
The funeral, with military honors, will be Thursday, April 25, at 9 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 4 to 8. The Mount Carmel Church Holy Name Society will meet Wednesday at 5:30 for a vigil service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home.
