Mary P. Cardozo, 85, of 2000 Knoxville Drive, Bedford, Texas, a former resident of Pittsfield, died Friday at home.
Born in Lisbon, Portugal, on Dec. 15, 1916, daughter of John and Lucinda DaFonseca Monteiro, she moved with her family to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the age of 6 and, in 1924, to Pittsfield, where she attended local schools. She moved to Bedford in June 1998.
Mrs. Cardozo was employed by the former St. Luke's Hospital for 10 years, retiring in 1962 as a medical lab assistant. Before that she was employed by the former Elmvale Worsted Co. for 22 years.
She was a communicant of St. Mark's Church in Pittsfield and St. Michael's Church in Bedford, and a member of Portuguese Continental Union 11 and a former member of Right to Life.
Her husband, Albert Cardozo, whom she married Aug. 22, 1936, died Feb. 6, 1987.
She leaves a son, Nelson J. Cardozo of Garland, Texas; two daughters, Lucinda M. Doyle of Bedford, with whom she made her home, and Barbara A. Ditore of Irving, Texas; a sister, Ida Villanova of Pittsfield; 16 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, April 23, at 10 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 3713 Harwood Road, Bedford. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Forest Ridge Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas. A Memorial Mass will take place in Pittsfield at St. Mark's Church at a date and time to be announced. FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., is in charge of local arrangements.
