Grace Hatt

Grace Hatt, 89, of 151 Sleepy Hollow Drive died Wednesday at home.
Born in Edmeston, N.Y., on May 3, 1912, daughter of Bert A. and Leta Cummings VanVant, she was a graduate of Sidney (N.Y.) High School and of Ithaca (N.Y.) College, where she received her degree in music.
She taught music for five years in the Sydney public schools before her marriage in 1939.
Mrs. Hatt lived in Webster, N.Y., for 50 years, then Hannawa Falls, N.Y., for two years prior to moving to Devonshire Estates in Lenox in 1999. She moved to Dalton last September.
While in Webster, she was an active member of First United Methodist Church and editor of its newspaper, director of its choir and active in its Dorcus Circle. When she moved to this area, she joined First Baptist Church of Pittsfield.
Her husband, Herbert A. Hatt, whom she married June 29, 1939, in Webster, died in 1999.
She leaves a daughter, Elaine H. Patton, with whom she resided; a son, Winston C. Hatt of Dallas, six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service for will be conducted Monday at 10 at First Baptist Church, Pittsfield, by the Rev. Dr. Robert M. Rennie. Following the service, there will be a reception in the church hall, where the family will greet friends. Graveside services will be held at 2 at Schnevus (N.Y.) Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to the First Baptist Church Music Program. WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, is in charge of arrangements.
