Emma Wert

Emma Wert, 90, died Wednesday at Laurel Lake Center in Lee, where she had resided since February 2000. She was the mother of the Rev. Arthur Kaufman of Sheffield.
Born in Roslyn, N.Y., on July 13, 1911, daughter of William H. and Emma Hasell Pickering, she attended schools on Long Island, N.Y., and graduated from the Foundling Hospital School of Nursing in New York in 1932.
She first worked at Flower Hospital in New York, then was a private-duty nurse for many years. She also had resided in Florida before moving to the Berkshires in January 2000.
A homemaker, she enjoyed collecting stamps and shells. She also enjoyed swimming in her younger years.
Her first husband, Arthur Kaufman, whom she married in 1932, died in 1957.
Her second husband, Stewart Wert, is deceased.
Besides her son, she leaves two other sons, William Kaufman of Rathdrumm, Idaho, and Wallace V. Kaufman of Cave Junction, Ore.; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
A service of remembrance will be held Saturday, April 20, at 2 at St. George's Episcopal Church in Lee, with the Rev. Noel Bailey, rector. There will be no calling hours.
