Arthur F. Brooks, 88, of Pomeroy Manor died Wednesday at Craneville Place in Dalton, where he had resided since January.
Born in Lanesboro on Oct. 21, 1913, son of Charles and Alice Beattie Brooks, he attended Pittsfield schools.
Mr. Brooks was employed by GE for 30 years in the transportation department, retiring in 1965. In 1955, he was Ronald Reagan's personal chauffeur in Pittsfield, when Reagan was a spokesman for GE. He also acted as a courier for GE, transporting sensitive documents to government installations.
He was a member of St. Agnes' Church and the Musicians and GE Hourly unions. He enjoyed playing the drums, which he did professionally.
His wife, the former Helen G. Doyle, died Dec. 8, 1996.
He leaves a son, Richard A. Brooks of Dalton; a daughter, Beverly A. Krause of Dalton; a sister, Barbara B. Abare of Pittsfield; four granddaughters, and a great-grandson.
The funeral will be Saturday at 9 from BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Dalton, with Mr. Pasqual Baldasaro, deacon of St. Agnes' Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today, Friday, from 7 to 9. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Dalton Ambulance Fund in care of the funeral home, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
