James Duquette

James H. Duquette, 59, of 15 Pine St. died Tuesday morning at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on June 16, 1942, son of John W. and S. Florence Hickey Duquette, he was a 1960 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. He earned a degree in English from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn., where he was class president, and his master's in school administration from Fairfield. He later earned his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1970.

An educator for 38 years, he had taught English at Wahconah Regional High School for the past 32 years. He was also a self-employed painter.

He enjoyed running, reading and writing. He also coached for many years. He was an avid fan of the Boston College Eagles, the Mets, Red Sox and New York Giants.

He leaves his wife, the former Mary Jane White, whom he married May 29, 1965, in St. Agnes' Church; a daughter, Jacqueline M. Duquette-Desmarais of Dalton; four sons, James R. Duquette of Ridgefield, Conn., Christopher J. Duquette of Pittsfield, Patrick J. Duquette of Boston and Brian J. Duquette of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; three sisters, Mary A. Culverwell of Dalton, Anne M. Rosa of Greenfield and Kathleen Duquette-Penna of Pittsfield; a brother, the Rev. Don Bosco Duquette, O.F.M. Cap, of Portland, Maine; and five grandchildren. His brother, Dennis J. Duquette, predeceased him in 1986.

Calling hours at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be Thursday from 3 to 7. Funeral services will be Friday at 10:15 from the funeral home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Agnes Church with his brother, Dr. Don Bosco Duquette, ofm.cap, officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashuelot Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the James H. Duquette Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
