John Wallace Provencher Sr., 68, of 66 South John St. died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 9, 1933, son of Ephriam and Dorothy Ellis Provencher, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He was employed as an in-spector for A.H. Rice Co. for 15 years. He retired in 1979 because of ill health. He had been em-ployed by the former Lichman Tannery before joining Rice.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling and baseball, and was an avid fan of the Boston Bruins and Red Sox.
He and his wife, the former Isabella E. Flynn, were married July 30, 1955.
Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, John W. Provencher Jr. of Pittsfield, Thomas J. Provencher of Dalton, Mark A. Provencher of Connecticut and David M. Provencher of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three brothers, his twin, Edwin Provencher, and Richard Provencher and Alan Provencher, all of Pittsfield; two sisters, Shirley Rennie and Jean Flynn, both of Pittsfield; seven grand-children and four great-grandchildren. Two daughters, Cheryl Provencher and Diane Provencher, died in infancy. He was also predeceased by a brother, Robert Provencher Sr. of Pittsfield, who died in December 1977, and a sister, Virginia Orazio of Pittsfield, who died last year.
The funeral will be Wednesday, April 3, at 9:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Mark's Church by the Rev. Henry R. Dorsch, pastor. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Provencher may be made to the American Lung Association in care of funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
