Arnold J. Barclay, 83, of 325 Hinsdale Road died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Born in Newport, R.I., on May 16, 1918, son of George N. and Bessie Forrester Barclay, he was educated there and graduated from Rodgers High School in 1936. He also trained to be a chemical technician at City College in New York City.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and served as a warrant officer in the Mediterranean theater from 1942 to 1945.
He moved to Pittsfield in 1946 and was employed by GE as a chemical technician and later as a group leader. He retired in 1981. He moved to Dalton in 1953, when he built his own home.
A member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Mr. Barclay was also a member of the Bas-Ridge Country Club of Hinsdale and the GE Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing golfing.
He leaves his wife, the former Anita L. Gross, whom he married June 21, 1947; a daughter, Elizabeth Barclay of Bowie, Md.; two sons, Arnold J. Barclay Jr. of Melrose and George N. Barclay II of Bowie; a brother, Richard Barclay of Bowie; three sisters, Naomi Heywood of Hartsdale, N.Y., Delores Dejans of Bowie and Ruth Stokes of Newport; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be held in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, East Street, on Wednesday at 11 with a liturgy and Holy Communion celebrated by the Rev. Jim Dannals, rector. Cremation will follow. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Renal Dialysis Center, 725 North St., Pittsfield, or to the American Kidney Foundation of Massachusetts in care of BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226, which is in charge of arrangements.
