Robert F. Ewing Jr., 84, of Anderson, S.C., a former Pittsfield resident, died March 11 at R.M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson.
Born Oct. 16, 1917, in Brighton, son of Robert F. Ewing Sr. and Ragnhild Anderson Ewing, Mr. Ewing attended Pittsfield High School and worked at General Electric Co. in Pittsfield for several years.
Mr. Ewing served in the U.S. Army and then served in the Navy during World War II and was assigned duty as a Seabee in New Guinea. He also served with the Pennsylvania National Guard and the Massachusetts National Guard. Mr. Ewing had lived in Clearwater, Fla., and in Erie, Pa.
While in Erie, Mr. Ewing served with the Erie Bureau of Fire for many years. He formerly worked as an upholster for Prozan's in Erie and was also self-employed. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Knights of Columbus.
He leaves three sons, Robert F. Ewing III of Holden, Maine, Brian J. Ewing of Erie and Jeffrey Ewing of the state of Florida; five daughters, Veronica Harrison, Elaine Brady, Jayne Simon and Elizabeth Simonian, all of Erie, and Kathleen Hagedorn of Austinburg, Ohio; two sisters, Elizabeth Persson of Atlanta and Ida May Persson of Dalton; 20 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
