John S. Tharion

John S. Tharion, 81, of 131 Eleanor Road died Saturday night at Hillcrest Commons.
Born in Medford on March 21, 1921, son of William H. and Jeannette MacDonald Tharion, he attended schools in Middleboro and was a graduate of Middleboro High School, Bentley College of Accounting and Finance and Northeastern University.
Mr. Tharion was employed in the finance department at GE for 45 years. He retired Dec. 31, 1987, from ordnance systems. He had also worked at the main plant in Pittsfield, in Holyoke and in Hudson Falls, N.Y. He worked as a consultant for two years after his retirement.
He was a communicant of St. Mark's Church.
Mr. Tharion enjoyed baseball, playing golf and gardening. He was a longtime member of the Berkshire Hills Country Club and Springside Garden Club, and a past director of the Boys' Club Alumnae Association.
He and his wife, the former Ellen C. Rooney, were married July 28, 1951 in St. Mary's Church.
Beside his wife, he leaves four sons, William Tharion of Framingham, James Tharion of Pittsfield, Edward Tharion of Belchertown, and Thomas Tharion of Lenox; a brother, William W. Tharion of Palm Beach, Fla., and five grandsons.
Calling hours will be today (Monday) from 4 to 6 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. The funeral will be tomorrow at 9:15 at the funeral home, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mark's Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
