Leo F. Winnard, 77, of Maple-in-the-Wood, Daytona Beach, Fla., a former resident of Pittsfield, died Friday at Horizon Health Care Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 28, 1925, son of Pittsfield Fire Department Capt. Walter H. Winnard and Blanche Robarge Winnard, he attended local schools, including Pittsfield High School. He moved to Florida 44 years ago. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Battle of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a surgical technician and earned his medical badge.
A house painter, he was employed by various companies. After his retirement, he was in charge of maintenance for the Vantage Point Condominium.
He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He leaves his wife of 46 years, the former Emma Louise Smith, whom he married in June 1955; five brothers, Louis Winnard of Windsor, Calif., Walter Winnard of Silver Spring, Md., Paul Winnard and Philip Winnard, both of Pittsfield, and Richard Winnard of Valatie, N.Y.; and three sisters, Theresa Tanner of Richmond and Alma Panetti and Anne Winnard, both of Pittsfield.
