Joseph F. Roberts, 79, of 194 Windsor Ave. died Sunday evening at the Venice Hospital in Venice, Fla., shortly after being admitted.
Born in Holyoke on March 11, 1922, son of Joseph A. and Fredericka Loomer Roberts, he was a resident of Pittsfield for most of his life. He attended the Clarke School for the Deaf in Northampton for 10 years and was a 1931 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He was employed as a metrology lab inspector at GE and retired in 1986 after 46 years of service.
Mr. Roberts attended the United Methodist Church of Lenox and was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners clubs. He enjoyed motorcycling and woodworking as well as skiing and swimming.
His wife, the former Betty Jean Nonamaker, whom he married May 15, 1947, died June 30, 1990.
He leaves two daughters, Sandra Ketcham and June Scorpa, both of Pittsfield; a son, David J. Roberts of Pittsfield; a sister, Anna Sanders of Fort Myers, Fla., and Hatfield; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves his companion of 11 years, Jean White of Amherst.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 7, at 7 p.m. at the DWYER FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. George Abosamra, interim pastor of United Methodist Church of Lenox, officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery in Florence. Calling hours will be Thursday from 5 until 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Clarke School for the Deaf in care of the Dwyer Funeral Home.
