Lindsey M. Ferrell

March 02, 2002

Lindsey Marie Ferrell, 16, of 677 Main St. died Saturday night from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in Hinsdale.

Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 25, 1985, daughter of Roger A. "Jay" Ferrell Jr. and Mary Kulas Ferrell of Dalton, she was a sophomore at Wahconah Regional High School.

Miss Ferrell was employed part time with the Central Berkshire Youth Action Alliance, a peer education program of the American Lung Association. At the time of her death, she was leading a project to create smoke-free playgrounds in Dalton. On Friday, the group celebrated the first-year anniversary of smoke-free restaurants in town.

Miss Ferrell was a Dalton cheerleader through eighth grade and, for the past two years, she had coached cheerleading. She also enjoyed camping.

Miss Ferrell loved life and was always smiling.

Besides her parents, she leaves a sister, Theresa L. Ferrell, and a brother, David E. Ferrell, both at home, and her maternal grandparents, Edward and Julia Nicholas Szakal of Dalton. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Roger and Josephine Passalacqua Ferrell Sr.

The funeral for Lindsey will be Wednesday, March 6, at 1 at St. Agnes' Church in Dalton, with the Rev. Pasqual Baldasaro, deacon, and the Rev. Mary Schreiber, senior missioner of Grace Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 5, from 4 to 7 at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., Dalton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lindsey M. Ferrell Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home. Lindsey's parents share this sentiment: For you, our daughter ... you are a blessing that we are forever thankful for ... And we want you to know that being your parents has been one of our greatest joys. -- Barbara Cage.
