Madeleine Monterosso

Madeleine Marie Monterosso, 77, of 99 Second St. died Tuesday afternoon at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in St. John's, Quebec, Canada, on July 22, 1924, daughter of Jean and Jeanne Miclette Arseneau, her family came to the United States when she was a child and settled in Pittsfield. She attended local schools.

Primarily a homemaker, she was employed at A.H. Rice Co., the former Glix Brand Pajama Factory and the former Berkshire Coat Factory at one time.

Mrs. Monterosso was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She was a gourmet cook and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, bingo and cards.

Her husband, Frank J. Monterosso, whom she married July 22, 1944, died Jan. 17, 1994.

She leaves a son, Gerald M. Monterosso of Pittsfield; five daughters, Grace Potter of Chilequin, Ore., Joane Marie Bradshaw of Eagle Point, Ore., Frances Stanfield of Rockville, Md., Sharon Choon of Dalton and Gisele Yetz of Pittsfield; a brother, J. Maurice Arseneau of Pittsfield; three sisters, Marguerita Fresia, Elaine Folan and June DiPalazzo, all of Pittsfield; 11 grandchildren, and one great-grandson. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert L. Arseneau, who died Dec. 8, 2001, and Marcel Arseneau, and two sisters, Irene Geerholt and Cecile Lacalaide, and a great-grandson, Tristan Choon.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, at 8:15 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, Feb. 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Monterosso may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
