Leon E. "Rick" Brown Jr., 42, of 109 Hancock Road died Saturday at home after suffering an apparent heart attack.
Born in Springfield on Sept. 10, 1959, son of Leon E. Brown Sr. and Victoria Lewis Brown of Springfield, he attended schools there and was a 1977 graduate of Putnam High School. While in high school, he was active in the high school sports programs. He had resided on Hancock Road for the past 12 years.
At the time of his death, Mr. Brown was employed as an adult caregiver for Brown & Sullivan Associates Inc., where he had worked for the past five years. He also was employed by the Berkshire County Association of Retarded Citizens for the past three years.
He enjoyed NFL football and was a fan of the Washington Redskins.
Besides his parents, he leaves two brothers, Gary M. Brown and Carlton K. Brown, both of Springfield, and a sister, Pamela Bussey of Hampton, Va.
A memorial service for Rick will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, at 1 p.m. at the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, conducted by the Rev. Dan Papineau of the Marian Fathers of Stockbridge. Following the memorial service, the LeVardi family will receive friends at their home at 109 Hancock Road in Pittsfield. Funeral services for Rick will also be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 10 a.m. at the Harrell Funeral Home, 355 St. James Ave., Springfield. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. A calling hour will be held Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Harrell Funeral Home in Springfield, prior to the service. The Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, is in charge of local arrangements.
