Jennifer French

Jennifer Ann French, 44, of 426 West Main St., Plainfield, formerly of Pittsfield, died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center after a long illness. She moved to Plainfield 26 years ago.

Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 13, 1957, daughter of Mary Bowles Ward of Pittsfield and the late James Ward, she was a 1974 grad-uate of Pittsfield High School. She also graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1993, with an associate's degree from the Massachusetts Municipal Assessors.

Mrs. French was employed by the town of Plainfield as assistant assessor for 12 years and as assistant treasurer for five years.

She was a communicant of St. Mark's Church. She received the Pope Pius X award on Nov. 12, 1989, for outstanding religious work. She was a member of the Plainfield Garden Club, the What Nots, a women's group, and the Investment Club, all in Plainfield. She also served on the Plainfield Flag and Flower Committee. She enjoyed gardening and going to Maine.

She and her husband, Keith D. French, celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary Dec. 14. They were married at St. Francis' Church in Pittsfield.

Besides her mother and her husband, she leaves three daughters, Heather French of Easthampton, Holly M. French of Campton, N.H., and Hope C. French of Washington, D.C.; five brothers, Dennis J. Ward of Springfield, Christopher P. Ward of Denver, Jeffrey W. Ward of Clifton Park, N.Y., Douglas M. Ward of Peterborough, N.H., and Lawrence J. Ward of Pittsfield, and two sisters, Colleen J. Thumm of Englewood, Colo., and Karen L. Ward of Maui, Hawaii.

The funeral will be Friday, Feb. 15, at 10 at Plainfield Congregational Church, Route 116, Plainfield, with the Rev. Conrad Pecevich, chaplain at Nichols College, officiating. Burial will follow in Plainfield Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. French may be made to the Education Research Division, Cancer Services, Bay State Medical Center, in care of DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
