Sheila Lyons, 81, formerly of 242 Appleton Ave., died Tuesday at Berkshire Place.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 15, 1920, daughter of John F. and Margaret I. Leahey Collins, she was a 1937 graduate of St. Joseph High School and a 1941 graduate of Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart in Manhattanville, N.Y.
Mrs. Lyons was employed as a teacher for the Pittsfield School Department at the former Central Junior High School from 1941 to 1945, and at Williams School for many years. She retired in 1976. After her retirement, she became a licensed Realtor for the Dwyer Agency.
She was a communicant of St. Teresa's Church and a member of its Rosary Society. She enjoyed reading and painting.
Her husband, John F. Lyons, whom she married April 30, 1945, in St. Charles' Church, died Oct. 27, 1997.
She leaves two sons, John F. Lyons Jr. of Washington, D.C., and Joseph P. Lyons of Amherst; a sister, Joan Matthews of St. Paul, Minn., and two grandchildren. Mrs. Lyons was predeceased by a sister, Justine Moore.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 9, at 9:15 a.m. from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Teresa's Church, celebrated by the Rev. John J. Varley, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be at DWYER FUNERAL HOME Friday, Feb. 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. If friends desire, donations may be made to St. Teresa's Church or HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of the Dwyer Funeral Home, in her memory.
