Janet Sugden, 68, of Lynchburg, Va., died Wednesday at Lynchburg General Hospital after a five-year battle with cancer.
Born in Pittsfield on June 17, 1933, she was the daughter of Dean W. and Ruth Doughty Colton.
She retired as an administrative assistant to the vice president for development at Randolph-Macon Women's College in Lynchburg.
Mrs. Sugden was a member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church.
An avid golfer, she was a leader in promoting women's golf in the Lynchburg area and was a member of the Colonial Hills Women's Golf Association there. She also was a member of the Sweet Adelines International for 20 years and Wisdom Chapter 130 of Order of Eastern Star in West Stockbridge.
She leaves her husband of 49 years, Albert Theadore Sugden.
She also leaves two sons, David W. Sugden and Donald W. Sugden, both of Atlanta; two sisters, Barbara C. Dixon and Virginia C. Larkin, both of Richmond, and five grandchildren.
