Charles E. Stone

Charles Edward Stone, 76, of Melbourne Place, 140 Melbourne Road, died yesterday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility, where he had resided for two weeks.
Born in Pittsfield on March 30, 1925, son of Harry E. and Marie Condon Stone, he was a 1943 graduate of St. Joseph's Central High School.
Mr. Stone was employed as an inspector by GE in the power transformer department for 42 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and a member of its Holy Name Society. He was a member of the the Knights of Columbus, the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and a 45-year member of the Berkshire Hills Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, walking and swimming.
His wife, the former Jane L. Mitchell, whom he married May 27, 1950, died Sept. 19, 1991.
He leaves two daughters, Bernadette M. Keegan of Pittsfield and Sharon P. Chapman of Richmond, and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.
The funeral will be Thursday, Jan. 31, at 9:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Francis Xavier Church by the Rev. Paul A. Bombardier, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday, Jan. 30, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Stone may be made to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
