Everett Kappenman

Everett A. "Kappy" Kappenman, 79, of 25 Darlene Ave. died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born May 1, 1922, in Burlingame, Calif., son of Everett A. and Mary A. Cohen Kappenman, he was a graduate of Burlingame High School in 1940 and later graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in electrical engineering.
Mr. Kappenman served in the Navy during World War II on the USS Guadalcanal from 1942 until 1946. He was called back to active duty during the Korean War, serving from 1950 until 1952.
He was employed as an electrical engineer by the Sacramento Municipal Utilities District until coming to General Electric Co. in Pittsfield. At GE, he served as project manager for Fire Control and Guidance Systems for Polaris, Poseidon and Trident missile systems. He retired in 1984 following 28 years with the company.
Mr. Kappenman was a former member of the Civitan Club of Pittsfield, and a member of the Elfun Society, and the GE Pensioners and Quarter Century clubs.
He married the former Marie L. Foster on June 19, 1947. She died in 1985.
He leaves a son, Donald Kappenman of Maui, Hawaii; a daughter, Mary L. Smith of Sand Lake, N.Y.; two grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
Memorial service will be private and at the convenience of the family. Following cremation, burial will be in California. In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to a charity of one's choice in Mr. Kappenman's memory. WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, is in charge of arrangements.
