Adelaide Tessier

Adelaide C. "Tottie" Tessier, 90, formerly of Salisbury Estates, died Monday evening at her daughter's home on North Plain Road, Housatonic, following a brief illness.
Born in Cohoes, N.Y., on June 15, 1911, daughter of Thomas and Abigail Mackay Cusack, she graduated from Cohoes High School.
She was employed by the state of New York and was the first woman to attain the position of senior purchasing agent in the Department of Standards and Purchase. She retired in 1962.
A communicant of St. Mark's Church, Mrs. Tessier enjoyed books, bridge, cooking, and entertaining family and friends.
Her husband, Dr. Francis J. Tessier, an orthodontist in Albany and Hudson, N.Y., whom she married Sept. 19, 1942, died May 23, 2000.
She leaves a daughter, Suzanne Tessier McElroy of Great Barrington, two grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Guyette, who died in 1987.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be conducted Friday, Jan. 18, at 11 at St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington with the Rev. William Eckert of St. Mark's Church as celebrant, and the Rev. William Wallis, pastor of St. Peter's, concelebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Waterford, N.Y. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Jan. 17, from 4 to 7 at the FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires through the Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
