Walter T. Duda, 84, of 108 Barton Hill Road, formerly of 121 Deming St., Pittsfield, died Tuesday at home.
Born in Milwaukee on Sept. 28, 1917, son of Stanislaw and Natalia Turowska Duda, he moved to Pittsfield as a young boy and attended local schools. He was a 1935 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mr. Duda was employed by GE for 45 years, first in the plastics department, then in Building 42 as the quality control physical laboratory inspector. He retired Jan. 1, 1980.
He worked at the Pittsfield Boys' Club as a supervisor in athletics during the evenings for 11 years.
He was a communicant of Holy Family Church. He enjoyed sports and gardening, and played basketball against city teams and with the GE plastics department. He also played softball with local teams at the General Electric Athletic Association.
He leaves his wife, the former Monica C. Murawski, whom he married June 1, 1946, in Holy Family Church; a son, Alfred M. Duda of Great Falls, Va.; a daughter, Maria Duda Doyle of Dalton, and six grandchildren. He is predeceased by his four brothers, Edward, Chester, Stanley and Alfred Duda. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ashley and Marissa Duda, and Jeffrey, Joseph, Natalie and Andrew Doyle; as well as his daughter-in-law, Susan Duda, and son-in-law, Anthony P. Doyle.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:15 a.m. at the funeral home, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at Holy Family Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in care of the funeral home.
