Omer C. Murphy Jr.

Omer C. Murphy Jr., 73, of 99 Clydesdale Drive died Dec. 27 at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Lynn on Sept. 15, 1928, son of Omer C. and Elsie McCarthy Murphy, he graduated from Lynn English High School and was a 1959 graduate of Northeastern University with a bachelor of science degree in business.
During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps. He served in the Air Force as an aerial photographer during the Korean War.
Mr. Murphy was employed in the plastics industry at DuPont, Belding Cordicelli and GE Plastics. In 1993, he retired as general manager of pipe and extrusion sales at GE Plastics, where he had been employed for 30 years.
His first wife, the former Elizabeth Slate, died June 4, 1982.
He leaves his wife, the former Janis E. Bower, whom he married May 13, 1983; two daughters, Jacqueline E. Haughey of Belchertown and Denise M. Matthews of Nashua, N.H.; two sisters, Mary Farina and Elsie H. Harney, both of Nashua, N.H., and five grandchildren.
A celebration of Omer's life will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, at 1:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza. The family will receive friends after the celebration. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Omer's name may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 1075 Santa Fe Drive, Denver, CO 80204, www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org, or to the Elizabeth Freeman Center, designated "For Children," 146 First St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. The DERY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
