James W. Hoffman

James W. Hoffman, 79, of 13030 S. 44th Way, Phoenix, Ariz., formerly 62 Putnam Ave., died Friday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 14, 1922, son of Louis and Mary Sanford Hoffman, he graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1939.
He was employed by the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad until 1956 and then worked as a foreman of railroad operations at GE. He became director of material reclamation at GE in 1968 and retired as supervisor in 1984. He moved to Phoe-nix in 1986.
He leaves his wife, the former Laura Shea, whom he married Jan. 8, 1949; four daughters, Laurie Delaney and Mary Hoffman-Wilkins, both of Arizona, Susan Hoffman-Watts of Pennsylvania, and Martha Hoffman of Cambridge; a son, J. Christian Hoff-man of Cambridge; three sisters, Mary Ann Ryan, Catherine and Claire Volin, all of Pittsfield; six step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 27, in Phoenix. A Memorial Mass and reception will be held in Pittsfield in January. If desired, donations in his name may be made to St. Joseph's High School. He also leaves his three sons-in-law, Thomas Delaney, Phillip Wilkins and David Watts. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the CARR TENNEY MORTUARY in Phoenix.
