Margaret L. May

Margaret L. May, 95, formerly of 44 Pine St., died Sunday at Springside of Pittsfield, where she had been a resident since October 1998.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Jan. 23, 1906, daughter of Louis and Margaret Dehn Arzt, she graduated from Pittsfield High School.
Mrs. May was employed by the Boston Store many years ago before becoming a homemaker. She later worked at Plotzski's Department Store on Tyler Street.
She was a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild, the Vestry, the Women's Club, the Young Adult People's Fellowship and the Girls Friendly Young Adults Club. She was a Scout den mother, a Girl Scout leader and a volunteer with the Red Cross blood bank, where she donated more than six gallons of blood. She also was a member of the Collina Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She spent many summers in East Otis, and, after her husband's retirement, they spent much of their time traveling.
Her husband, Franklin B. May Sr., whom she married Sept. 14, 1925, died June 28, 1982.
She leaves four sons, Franklin B. May Jr. of San Jose, Calif., William H. May of Bennington, Vt., Charles L. May of Pittsfield and John E. May of Cheshire; two daughters, Barbara L. Milne of Friday Harbor, Wash., and Beverly A. Simon of Sequim, Wash.; a brother, Louis C. Arzt of Denham Springs, La.; 31 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons, Richard A. May, who died in 1985, and George T. May, who died in 1968, and a daughter, Joan May Derby, who died in 1993, also predeceased by two grandchildren, Dunkin Milne in 1961, and Thomas May in 1994, and a great-granddaughter, Jewel L. May, in 2001.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Mary Schreiber, missioner, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield will be on Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the St. Martin's Church memorial fund in care of the funeral home at 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
