Richard Ferrell

Richard S. Ferrell Sr., 80, of Westford, formerly of Pittsfield, died Saturday at Emerson Hospital in Concord.
Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 31, 1920, son of Albert A. and Lena Muzette Rogers Ferrell, he was a 1938 graduate of the former Dalton High School. He moved to Westford in 1957.
An Army veteran, he served in the South Pacific during World War II. He retired in 1961 with the rank of major and received many campaign medals throughout his career.
A machinist, Mr. Ferrell was employed for a total of more than 40 years by Sanders Associates in Nashua, N.H., and by Discom in Westford.
He was past master of the William Sewall Gardner Lodge of Masons in Lowell from 1982 through 1983, 12th Masonic district deputy grand marshal from 1989 through 1990 and ritualist for the lodge.
He and his wife, the former Hope W. Booth, would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Dec. 27.
Besides his wife, he leaves five daughters, Nancy and Susan Ferrell, both of Westford, Pamela Fullford of the state of Florida, Deborah Searle of Groton and Judith LaBonté of Hudson, N.H.; a son, Richard S. Ferrell Jr. of Tyngsboro; a sister, Barbara Fezzi of New Mexico, and six grandchildren.
Friends may call at HEALY FUNERAL HOME, 57 North Main St., Westford, on Wednesday from 3 to 5, with a Masonic service at 5. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Westford Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 197, Westford, MA 01886.
