Lillian Lorraine Downey, 82, formerly of Rose Manor, died Tuesday at Hillcrest Commons, where she had resided for the past two years.
Born in Pittsfield on April 8, 1919, daughter of John P. and Dora Savery Dowd, she was a 1938 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
She served in the Navy WAVES during World War II.
She was employed by General Electric Co. as a secretary in its relations and utilities department from 1953 until 1981.
Mrs. Downey was a communicant of St. Francis' Church. She was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners clubs and was a past secretary of the GE Pensioners Association for many years. She was also a member of the former Mothers of Twins Club. An avid sports fan, she enjoyed golfing, swimming and traveling.
Her husband, Peter G. Downey, whom she married Oct. 16, 1944, died Feb. 2, 1977.
She leaves three sons, James P. Downey of Williamsburg, Va., Peter J. Downey of Richmond, Va., and Paul J. Downey of Northampton, and a grandson. She was predeceased by two sisters, Madeline A. Ryan, late of Dalton, and Dorothy Stanton, late of Pittsfield.
Funeral services for Mrs. Downey will be Friday, Dec. 21, at 9:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Francis' Church, celebrated by the Rev. Paul A. Bombardier, pastor. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery, Dalton. Calling hours will be today, Thursday, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Downey's memory may be made to the Boys' and Girls' Club of Pittsfield in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
