Jane L. Kibby

Jane L. Kibby, 78, of Media, Pa., formerly of West Housatonic Street, died Sunday at home.

Born in Washington, D.C., on June 26, 1923, daughter of Ralph E. and Ruth Davis Lawrence, she attended Wellesley College. She had been a resident of Media for more than 30 years.

Mrs. Kibby was an elementary schoolteacher for a short time. She took in foster children, "sunshine" children and juvenile delinquents. She also taught square dancing, and she and her husband ran an arts and crafts program for the handicapped. While in Pittsfield, Mrs. Kibby and her husband, the Rev. David Robert Kibby, helped lead and develop the Unitarian Fellowship into the Unitarian Universalist Church. After moving to Pennsylvania in 1960, they helped lead and develop the Unitarian Fellowship into the Unitarian Universalist Church of Delaware County, Pa.

Her husband, whom she married in 1944, died in 1991.

She leaves two sons, Douglas R. Kibby of Moravia, N.Y., and David L. Kibby of Swarthmore, Pa.; two daughters, Carol K. Dillard of Tulsa, Okla., and Ruth Ann Kibby of Putney, Vt.; a brother, William H. Lawrence of Centralia, Wash.; 10 grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 26, at 4 p.m. at Unitarian Universalist Church of Delaware County. Burial will be in Memorial Garden of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Delaware County. Memorial donations may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Delaware County, 145 West Rose Tree Road, Media, PA 19063; or Taylor Hospice, 300 Johnson Ave., P.O. Box 147, Ridley Park, PA 19078. Arrangements are by NOLAN-FIDALE FUNERAL HOME, 2316 Providence Ave., Chester, Pa.
