Helen Y. Long, 89, of 235 Walker St., Kimball Farms Retirement Community, died Tuesday at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center. She moved to Kimball Farms in 1989.
Born in Pittsburgh on Feb. 8, 1912, daughter of Dr. James McMaster Long and Mary Youmans Long, she attended Winchester Preparatory School and graduated summa cum laude from Smith College in Northampton. She also attended Carnegie Institute of Technology, where she specialized in library science.
Miss Long did charity work in Pittsburgh. After her father's retirement, her family moved to Norwalk, Conn., and later to Westport, Conn., where she worked as an accountant for Christ and Holy Trinity Church.
Miss Young leaves her niece, Carolyn Luce Sangston of Gwynedd Valley, Pa., and her nephew, Edward Livingston Youmans Luce of Longwood, Fla., four grandnephews, two grandnieces and one great-grandniece.
A memorial service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in New York City on Monday, Dec. 10, at 3 p.m. There will be no calling hours. Donations in Helen's memory may be made to Christ and Holy Trinity Church in care of ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240.
