LENOX, Mass. — Louisa Christine DeJoy Omelenchuck, 84, of Lenox died Friday evening, January 18, 2019, at Worcester Memorial, University Campus, in Worcester, Mass., with her loving family by her side.
Born in Hudson, N.Y., on August 25, 1934, she was the daughter of Violante (William) DeJoy and Mary D'Angelo. Louise was a graduate of Hudson High School in 1952, and went directly to work for Kadin Brothers, a Pocketbook Factory in Hudson, N.Y.
She married Steven J. Omelenchuck on July 31, 1955, moving first to Pittsfield, Mass., then built their house in Lenox, moving there in 1958. Louise first worked as a secretary for Krofta Engineering and then became one of two, of the first teacher;s aides hired for the Lenox Public School along with Sheila Walsh of Lenox Dale, retiring in 1990 after 29 years. It was at Morris School that Louise developed a lasting friendship with all of the children that passed through the school and who still talk fondly of their love for Mrs. "O."
A communicant of St. Ann;s Church, Louise volunteered in every aspect, from CCD instructor to frying dough at numerous bazaars and fundraisers. She especially loved working at the Parish Center helping out for their numerous receptions. She was also a member of The Catholic Daughters of America.
She was predeceased by her husband Steven in 1998; and her sister Margie Chappell of Albany, N.Y.
She is survived by her two sons, Steven Omelenchuck (Bobbi) of Lenox Dale and John Omelenchuck (Diane) of Pittsfield; grandchildren Mary Dowd (Michael) of Worcester, Susan Omelenchuck of Lenox, and Mitchell and Ross Omelenchuck of Pittsfield; a great-grandson, Luke Michael Dowd; a sister, Matilda Wagner of Hudson, N.Y.; and brother John DeJoy of Kingston, N.Y.
Funeral notice: The funeral for Mrs. Louise C. Omelenchuck will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 9:30 a.m. from the Roche Funeral Home, followed by A Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday, January 25, 2019, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240. In lieu of flowers, donations in Louise's memory may be made to St. Ann's Church in care of the funeral home.
