Margaret M. Spence, 83, of 247 Springside Ave. died Monday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on June 30, 1918, daughter of John and Sarah Murphy Flynn, she attended local schools and was a 1936 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Spence was employed by General Electric Co. during the 1950s and at the former Curletti's Market during the 1960s.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Her husband, John J. Spence Sr., whom she married June 29, 1940, died Oct. 20, 1996.
She leaves two sons, William F. Spence of Lanesboro and Francis J. Spence of Pittsfield; a brother, John P. Flynn Jr. of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, John J. "Jack" Spence Jr. on Dec. 14, 1995, and her sister, Frances Farry, on Sept. 22, 2000.
The family will receive friends Thursday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Paul Bombardier, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
