Dr. Frank Archibald

Dr. Frank W. Archibald, 84, of 108 New Lenox Road, a longtime Pittsfield dentist, died Monday at the Providence Care Center of Lenox.
Born in Cheshire, son of Dr. Harry N. Archibald and Julia Penrose Archibald, he graduated from Adams High School. He also graduated form the University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical School and Tufts University Dental School in Boston.
During World War II, he entered the military as a dentist, serving from 1942 until 1946, spending most of this time in England. He transferred to the Reserves during the Korean War, and was discharged with the rank of major in the Army Air Force in 1951.
Dr. Archibald was a dentist in Pittsfield for 39 years, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and the Massachusetts Dental Society. He was a former member of the Lenox Park Commission. He enjoyed gardening.
He leaves his wife, the former Helen Mandell, whom he married May 30, 1942; two sons, Bruce W. Archibald of Lenox and David N. Archibald of Fort Gibson, Okla., and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 a.m. at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, with the Rev. David DeSmith officiating. Burial will be in the Mountainview Cemetery, Lenox. Calling hours will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Joslin Clinic in care of the funeral home.
