Robert L. Maynard Sr.

Robert Leon Maynard Sr., 77, of 245 Cheshire Road died Sunday afternoon at home.

Born in Lanesboro on May 15, 1924, son of Wyatt L. and Helena Mickle Maynard, he attended schools in Lanesboro and Pittsfield.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 82nd Airborne, 10th Mountain Division.

Mr. Maynard was employed by Berkshire Gas Co. as a service technician for 28 years, retiring in 1987. Before that, he worked at GE for 11 years.

He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 448 and the Dalton American Legion Post 155. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, camping, traveling and gardening.

His wife, the former Helenruth Goodrow, whom he married Sept. 10, 1945, died April 10, 1996.

He leaves two sons, Robert L. Maynard Jr. of Pittsfield and Michael G. Maynard of Cheshire; three daughters, Wendy La-Rocque and Suzanne Baumann, both of Pittsfield, and Michelle Schroeter of Williamstown; a brother, Richard Maynard of Lanesboro; three sisters, Virginia Culver of Eddington, Maine, Barbara Hoffman of New Lebanon, N.Y., and Madeline Pickens of Dover, Del.; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 6, at 11 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church by the Rev. David J. DeSmith, interim rector. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be tomorrow, Dec. 5, from 4 to 7 at DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
