Edward McDonald

Edward J. McDonald, 88, of 471 Wauregan Road, Killingly, Conn., died Saturday at home. He was elected a Pittsfield councilor at large in 1945 and served as president of the council from 1947 to 1948. He ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 1949.
Born in Pittsfield on May 31, 1913, son of John T. and Alice Kimmey McDonald, he was a 1930 graduate of St. Joseph's High School and attended St. Michael's College. He moved to Killingly in 1996.
Mr. McDonald was a cost accountant in the plastics division of GE, retiring in 1971 with 33 years of service. He lost both of his legs in an industrial accident at GE on May 1, 1944.
He was a communicant of St. James' Church in Killingly and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs.
Mr. McDonald enjoyed reading, music and cookin. He traveled extensively, including six trips to Ireland.
He and his wife, the former Agnes T. Kushi, were married in St. Mary's Church on May 30, 1940. She died Jan. 16, 1970.
He leaves five daughters, Mary Jo McLaughlin of Killingly, with whom he resided, Geraldine M. Ross and Kathleen P. Herman, both of Pittsfield, Mary Ellen Florczyk of Columbus, Ga., Stephanie M. Case of the town of Washington; a son, Matthew J. McDonald of Ormond Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Alice M. DiCicco and Patricia M. O'Leary, both of Pittsfield; 13 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Another son, Michael J. McDonald, died Oct. 31, 1994.
The funeral will be Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 11:15 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at noon at St. Charles' Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, Dec. 4, from 4 to 7. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Northeast Connecticut in care of the funeral home.
