Doris McGuire, 83, formerly of Center Street, Hoosick Falls, N.Y., died Sunday at Hoosick Falls Health Center. She was the mother of Linda Fairbanks of Dalton.
Born in Hoosick Falls on Feb. 5, 1918, daughter of Edward Maleady Sr. and Catherine McMahon Maleady, she graduated from the former Hoosick Falls High School in 1935 and from the former Albany (N.Y.) Business School in 1936.
Mrs. McGuire was the village of Hoosick Falls clerk from 1964 until retiring in 1980. Before that, she was village treasurer for two years. She first had been employed by Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. in Albany, N.Y., as an executive secretary, until her father died in 1937. She returned to Hoosick Falls to help her mother in the family business, Maleady Brothers Insurance Co., until 1962.
She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls and a member of the Retired Public Employees Association, the Hoosick Falls Health Center Auxiliary, and the New York State Association of City and Village Clerks.
Her husband, James McGuire Jr., died in December 1984.
Besides her daughter, she leaves three sons, Edward "Mal" McGuire and Kevin McGuire, both of Hoosick Falls, and Dennis McGuire of Watervliet, N.Y.; three sisters, Sister Edwarda Maleady of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Latham, N.Y., Mary Cuddihy of Hoosick Falls and Ann Maleady of Troy, N.Y.; a brother, Edward Maleady Jr. of Hoosick Falls; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Judy Graney, and a son, James McGuire III.
The funeral will be Thursday, Nov. 15, at 10:30 from MAHAR FUNERAL HOME, 43 Main St., Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow from 5 to 8. Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Mary's Academy or the Hoosick Falls Health Center through the funeral home.
