LENOX, Mass. — Rita R. Maitland, 90, of 329 Pittsfield Road died Monday morning, September 4, 2017, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Littleton, New Hampshire, on May 9, 1927, the daughter of John and Agnes Page Ross, she attended schools there and was a 1944 graduate of Littleton High School. Following high school Mrs. Maitland moved to Washington, D.C., where she attended the Washington School for Secretaries and was employed by the Federal Government for the next 32 years.
She came to Lenox to make her home following the death of her husband Kenneth Maitland in 1976. They were married in Washington in 1972.
She was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church and a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She enjoyed her time as a volunteer at Berkshire Medical Center and for Hospice Care in the Berkshires and was an avid golfer.
Mrs. Maitland is survived by one brother, Robert Ross and wife Doria, of Lake George, N.Y.; three step-daughters; several nieces and nephews and their extended families; and her Persian cat Shahzee.
Besides her parents and husband she was also predeceased by her sister Joan Boudreau; husband James; her brother Stanley Ross; and nieces Deborah and Wanda.
Funeral notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mrs. Rita R. Maitland of Devonshire Estates in Lenox will be celebrated Saturday morning, September 9, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's Church by the Rev. Monsignor John J. Bonzagni, Pastor. Burial will be Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at 1 p.m. at St. Rose Cemetery in Littleton, N.H.
There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations in Rita’s name may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240.
