John Dudley

John "Jack" Dudley, 75, of Stuart, Fla., a native of Lenox, died Tuesday at home.

Born in Lenox on Dec. 17, 1925, son of John R. and Marie Mahoney Dudley, he graduated magna cum laude in 1950 from St. Michael's College in Burlington, Vt., with a degree in business administration. He received his master of business administration degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1955. He resided in Glastonbury, Conn., before moving to Stuart 17 years ago.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he served on the USS Monterey in the Pacific, earning nine battle stars.

Mr. Dudley was vice president of quality assurance for United Technologies Corp., Pratt & Whitney division, in East Hartford, Conn., for 36 years, serving as administrative assistant to the president for the last three years. He was responsible for new safety measures for jet engines in 727, 737, 747, DC-9 and DC-10 commercial planes, and in military aircraft, including the F-14, F-15 and F-16.

He was a member of St. Christopher's Church in Hobe Sound, Fla., where he was a founding member of the St. Vincent De Paul Charity. He was elected director of the Treasure Coast Council of St. Vincent De Paul and served as its president. He also was a lifetime member, 3rd degree, of Knights of Columbus 10718 at St. Christopher's and 4th-degree member of Father McGinley in Stuart.

He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Mariner Sands Country Club and the Willoughby Country Club, both in Florida.

He leaves his wife, the former Rosemary Trifilo; two brothers, Joseph Dudley of Dallas and Daniel Dudley of Pittsfield, and a sister, Mary Contenta of Seattle.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, at St. Christopher's Catholic Church, Hobe Sound. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pittsfield on Thursday, Nov. 1, at a time to be announced. Those who wish may contribute to Hospice of Martin & St. Lucie. Out-of-state arrangements are under the direction of Young & Prill Funeral Home, Stuart. Local arrangements are under the direction of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, Pittsfield.
