David Zwerner

David Zwerner, 79, of 278 Appleton Ave. and St. Petersburg, Fla., died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Tarrytown, N.Y., on July 7, 1922, son of Aaron and Lotte Zwerner, he was orphaned at age 9 and was raised by his aunt and uncle in Riverdale, N.Y. He graduated from New York University with a bachelor of science degree in business. After World War II, he entered Fordham University Law School and graduated in 1951.
During the war, he served in the Army Air Forces as a navigator on B-24 bombers in the Pacific. He suffered injuries after bailing out of an aircraft and received the Purple Heart.
Mr. Zwerner practiced law in Westchester County, N.Y., and resided in Hartsdale, N.Y., until moving to the Berkshires three years ago.
He was a member of Congregation Knesset Israel and of the Berkshire Institute for Lifetime Learning. He also was a volunteer at Tanglewood for the last three years.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, the former Evelyn Patt; three sons, Dr. Alan R. Zwerner of Scottsdale, Ariz., Dr. Peter L. Zwerner of Richmond and Daniel Zwerner of Somers, N.Y., and Hilton Head, S.C.; a sister, Ruth Diamond of Yonkers, N.Y., and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 11:30 at the Knesset Israel Synagogue, with Rabbi David I. Small, spiritual leader of the congregation, officiating. Burial will follow in Knesset Israel Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program in care of Berkshire Medical Center. DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends in Richmond following the services Sunday.
