Alice Cabrera, 83

January 27, 2017

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Alice "Ginger" M. (Curtis) Cabrera, 83, of Pittsfield went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 27, 2017.

Alice's faith was her rock as ''Rock of Ages'' was one of her favorite hymns. Alice was born in Sutton Vermont on June 25, 1933, to Avery & Violet Irene (Clark) Curtis. She was the youngest of four children, being predeceased by Geraldine, Herbert and Wayne.

Alice attended Lyndon Institute in Lyndon Center in Vermont, later on attending Holyoke Community College, where she received an associate's degree in arts and medical secretarial. Later on she ran a large rooming house in Springfield, Mass., where she resided for many years. Being a strong community supporter, she volunteered for many years on the local neighborhood council. Her greatest job in life was being a mother.

Some of Alice's favorite pastimes included spending time at the ocean, traveling, and arts & crafts. Always her favorite pastime, bragging on her children.

Alice's first husband, Donald M. Harris, predeceased her. She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Ignacio Cabrera of Springfield, Mass. She was predeceased by her oldest son, Kenneth Harris, and daughter Linda (Harris) Cook.

She leaves her surviving sons, James Harris of Bristol Conn., John & Virginia Harris of Redondo Beach, Calif., Robert Cabrera of Burlington Vt., and Daniel & Karen Cabrera of Burlington, Vt. Alice is also blessed with 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Hillcrest Commons for their love and compassion for their caring of Alice.

Funeral notice: To celebrate her life, the immediate family will hold a memorial service in May at the Springfield Cemetery in Springfield. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Springfield.  Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield.
