DALTON -- Helen Catherine Culverwell, 84, formerly of 43 Crane Ave., died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Dalton on Nov. 25, 1916, daughter of James and Gertrude Hughes Briggs, she attended St. Charles' Grammar School and St. Joseph's Central High School.
A homemaker, she worked at One-Hour Martinizing for 16 years. During World War II, she was employed at St. Luke's Hospital as a nurse's aide and at GE.
She was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church and a member of its Rosary Society. She also was a member of the Friends of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
She leaves her husband, George H. Culverwell, whom she married Nov. 30, 1935; two daughters, Beverly J. Newbery and Sister Joyce Culverwell of the Sisters of St. Joseph, both of Pittsfield; two brothers, James Briggs of Dalton and Francis Briggs of Pittsfield; a sister, Alice Geoffrion of Shelbyville, Ind.; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Culverwell will be held Friday, Oct. 19, at 10:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Agnes' Church, Dalton, celebrated by the Rev. John A. Koonz, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours at Dery Funeral Home, Pittsfield, will be held today from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Culverwell's memory may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph or to the Salvation Army, both in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
