PITTSFIELD -- Ralph Dudley Head Jr., 84, of Weston, Conn., a native of Pittsfield, died Monday.
Born in Pittsfield on June 7, 1917, son of Dr. Ralph Head and Margarett Cole Head, he was a 1936 graduate of Taft School in Connecticut and a 1940 graduate of Williams College. While at Williams, he was a All-American in both football and hockey. He had resided in Weston for 35 years.
He served in the Marine Corps as a major during World War II.
Mr. Head was employed as a sales manager for Inter Chemical Corp.
He was a member of the Norfield Congregational Church for more than 50 years and a member of the Westport (Conn.) YMCA. He was a former counselor for the Mid-Fairfield Council on Alcoholism, a former volunteer at Norwalk Hospital and a former leader for both the Boy Scouts and Sea Scouts.
He leaves his wife, the former Stephanie Townsend; a daughter, Cordelia T. Head of Weston; three sons, Alexander Head of Westport, Jeffery C. Head of Fairfield, Conn., and Timothy Cole Head of Basking Ridge, N.J.; a sister, Peggy Daniels of Adams;, and eight grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Norfield Congregational Church, 64 Norfield Road, Weston, CT 06883. The HARDING FUNERAL HOME, 210 Post Road East, Westport, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Norfield Congregational Church.
