LENOX -- Dorothy Charles Zall, 85, of Lenox died Monday.
Born in Boston on April 23, 1916, daughter of Abraham and Sarah Smith Charles, she attended Boston schools and graduated from Girls High School in 1934.
Mrs. Zall trained as a hairdresser after high school, but closed her shop in Boston in 1941 after her husband's return from World War II. After raising her family, she went to work at Sears-Roebuck & Co. in Boston, retiring in the early 1980s. She moved to Devonshire Estates in 1999.
She attended college courses in opera and, for one year, toured the European opera locations, opera houses and birthplaces of opera composers.
Her husband, Jacob Zall, whom she married Nov. 28, 1940, died in 1984.
She leaves two daughters, Roberta Zall of Pleasant Hill, Calif., and Amy Rutstein of Great Barrington; a son, Richard Zall of Portland, Maine, and a granddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Service of Remembrance will be held at Devonshire Estates in Lenox on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at a later date. Donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
