Ralph L. Welch, 72

PITTSFIELD -- Ralph L. Welch, 72, of 52 Orchard St. died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Interlaken on Jan. 27, 1929, son of Robert Grace and Frances Welch, he attended schools in Pittsfield.

Mr. Welch was employed in the construction industry throughout his career. He was most recently employed as a foreman with Lane Construction Co. for many years, before retiring because of ill health in 1979.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. He was a thoroughbred racing enthusiast and a fan of collegiate and professional football. He enjoyed bowling in his earlier years and playing cards with extended family and friends.

He leaves his wife, the former Rita E. Murphy, whom he married Jan. 27, 1962; three sons, T. Bruce Hiser of Dalton, David G. Hiser of Redford, Mich., and Mark A. Welch of Pittsfield; three daughters, Cheryl L. Bolton, Darlene R. Daniels and Mary F. Welch, all of Pittsfield; 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Rocky D. Welch Sr., and a stepson, Dennis Burke.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Calling hours at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be Wednesday from 4 to 7. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 8:15 a.m. from the funeral home, followed with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at St. Joseph's Church, with the Rev. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Catholic Youth Center or to St. Joseph's Church in care of the funeral home.
